Nigeria is a country blessed with many resources, but unfortunately, all these natural blessings are mismanaged. The whole system is messy – and things continue getting worse by the day.
We are called the Giant of Africa, yet there is nothing to show for it. The social amenities are nothing to write home about – and the major roads are bad. According to National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), 11, 363 people died in road accident in 2016, and between January and June 2017, 2,673 people have been recorded to die as a result of bad roads in the country.
In fact, Nigeria is ranked 2nd in road-traffic accidents in the world, and our poor Healthcare System isn’t helping. In a country with over 170,000,000 people, only about 20% have access to basic primary healthcare.
Our leaders had failed woefully (and continue failing) in the aspect of healthcare in the country. And the most disheartening thing is that these so-called leaders have their kids and relatives registered in the UK and US for medical care, using taxpayers’ monies.
Our population keep increasing every day, with no adequate healthcare plan in place. Fake pharmacies and quack doctors had ceased this opportunity to add to the woes – thanks to the poor healthcare policies.
Almost every day, we hear horror stories of people who had a minor illness but end up losing their lives because of fake drugs and illegal hospitals; people continue dying of diseases that could have been easily diagnosed, controlled and treated.
It’s sad that the Nigerian Healthcare System is not well equipped to take care of the current and future health challenges of Nigerians.
The face of healthcare is drastically changing globally, and our country ought to follow this global trend. We need access to quality medical care as the people living in developed countries.
The Way Forward
Having realised the poor state of the Nigerian Healthcare System and its negative impacts, resulting in numerous loss of lives every year, Smaart Health wants the best for Nigerians and is following the new global healthcare trend, which would put a lasting solution to health care problem in the country.
