Who is Timi Agbaje?
Timi Agbaje is a seasoned, hilarious Master of Ceremony as well as a Media Entrepreneur.
Briefly tell us about your career as a Master of Ceremony.
I started in 2015 while I was at 300 level back in the University. It was like starting up every good business; getting trusted by people was hard and acquiring clients was difficult. As time went by, referrals and good feedbacks from every job did the magic.
What struck you to become an M.C? Was passion alone sufficient?
Struck me? I had been going to events previously before setting out to be an M.C; seeing what the M.Cs were doing, I was sure I could do it well or even better in some instances.
Lol, passion is never enough. I consulted, observed and learnt from bigger M.Cs ahead of me. I practically go to events just to observe what the M.C was up to, so I could do it better when the chance comes.
What challenges have you encountered so far in your career?
There have been no challenges so far.
How is the competition in your niche?
Competition? Lol. We stay winning here.
Are there any specific events you anchor?
This question is my exact idea of the kind of M.C I am. I have no limitations or restrictions; everywhere there is a mic and audience, I am good to go.
Have there been any challenges in adapting to different audience demography?
Adaptation is not a challenge in this job for me. It is a basic requirement for every good M.C; you always have to adapt and connect with your audience like your everyday people.
Are you able to pronounce local names properly? If no, how will you remedy such situation?
When situations like that come up, I try to beat it by finding out the correct pronunciation ahead. I consult with the organisers or seek an usher’s help to fix it.
How do you handle an audience if they are unresponsive?
Hmm, that has rarely happened to me, but you have to understand that M.C – audience relationship is like running into people, some of this people vibe with you instantly, and some grow to like you. Be punctual to your events, study how your audience interacts with themselves, then you can know the best way to penetrate them. It’s a process; you don’t rush it.
Your subtle confidence above all is unnegotiable too.
As a Master of Ceremony, what are your achievements to date?
I founded Man the Mic, an academy with a vision of igniting and sustaining sterling communication skills in young individuals with amazing testimonials in just a year.
I have been awarded Best University Compere in Nigeria 2017 by Nigeria University Youth Merit Award (NUYMA), Student Celebrity of the year 2017 (OAU Awards).
Beyond all these, I am not even started yet; this is still a sound check, the future is up for grabs. With God, we are winning.
