If you are a blogger in Nigeria, or maybe you just own a website that you use for business, it’s only normal that you would want an increase in the number of people that visit your blog.
Therefore, it becomes a worry when the little traffic you have been able to get for your website begins to dwindle.
Before you start panicking and running from pillar to post, I will give you five tips to help you get that traffic back and even attract more readers.
First, let me point it out that, if your traffic starts dropping for no reason whatsoever (you didn’t change anything and had been posting consistently), then it could have something to do with your ranks on Alexa. You might need to carry out some on-page and off-page SEO to fix that (I treated that in my older post).
So, are you ready to learn how to get those disappearing traffic back and gain more in the process? Let’s go!
Your Website Traffic Decreasing? These 5 Tips Would Help Turn It Around
1. Post More Content With Keywords
When it seems like you are losing out on traffic, what you need to do is to increase the number of posts you make. If you used to post only once a week, consider making it three times a week. And if you post two articles a day, take it a notch higher by doubling the number. I talked about the importance of keywords for SEO in one of my posts. It’s also helpful to search for some keywords that will attract your audience and add to your content to boost its visibility on search engines.
If you have been limiting yourself to just having a presence on Facebook alone, this might be a good time to open an account on Twitter, LinkedIn, Pinterest, etc. Although some of the social media may not serve your blogging needs, you lose nothing by creating more. Apart from the fact that people will get to see your post and possibly share it with their friends, you also get more presence on search engines when you share the posts on different social media platforms.
I know the economy in Nigeria is challenging, but if you have extra cash to throw around, why not consider Facebook advertising? This is one of the fastest means of attracting traffic to your blog or website.
3. Consider Guest Posting To Earn Backlinks
Guest posting can earn you good backlinks, but make sure that you guest post on other blogs in your niche. This boosts your SEO ranking and also exposes you to more readers. Here is an assignment for you. Start taking note of those who rank higher than you do in search results and make a list of them. Each day, pick one website to pitch your guest posting request to. You might get one of them to accept your proposal. And while you are at it, don’t forget to add links to your website at the end of the guest post.
4. Engage With Your Audience
Many bloggers especially the upcoming ones make this mistake of not engaging with their readers. There are several ways you can engage with your audience. You can engage with them in the comment section of your blog post. And you can also write a topic based on some of the questions your readers mentioned in the comment section.
Always ask your audience what they would like to read next. Encourage them to ask questions in the comment section, and if they do that, be polite enough to respond. Some advanced bloggers in Nigeria go as far as giving out recharge cards to their readers. Believe it when I tell you that the struggle for more traffic is tough. If you can’t afford giving out recharge cards, why not offer them your time by engaging with them in the ways I have mentioned?
5. Personalize Some Of Your Posts To Show Movement From A Point To Another
Nigerians love reading about how people went from point A to point B. If you can occasionally throw in some personal issues about you (your struggles and your success stories), you may be able to garner some emotions from your readers. You become real to them and not just some distant blogger posting articles all the time. Their loyalty to you will increase by leaps and bounds.
There you have it! Try out my five tips and let me know how it works out in the comment section.
